The Philadelphia Union?
Sometime last December, MLS decided to give Philadelphia it's own soccer stadium/team. Months have gone by to think of the perfect name for the team; so what do they come up with? Yep, the Philadelphia Union...sounds like a bank.
According to an ESPN article, "The name Independence was thought to be an early favoite, but didn't make the final cut of four finalists." (Someone needs to proofread their work) I would rather have taken Independence. Other finalists included Philadelphia SC, the initials standing for "Soccer Club;" Philadelphia AC, for "Athletic Club," and Philadelphia City. I think if Philadelphia City was chosen I would probably write a letter complaining.
Oh well it doesn't really matter. I can't wait to check out the new stadium and cheer on another Philly sports team. Come on 2010!
