About Me

Who is Eric Cortes you ask? Well I'm currently the Marketing & Promotions Coordinator at WWSI Telemundo Philadelphia. I (sort of) oversee all aspects of the station’s marketing and promotions activities, as well as direct efforts to enhance the station’s public image and outreach to the community.

I've been responsible for creating, planning and implementing the promotional, advertising, and public relations strategies of the station in order to increase audience, revenue and community awareness. I'm a proactive, results oriented person who is always thinking of creative and novel strategies to market the station and its programming, to develop new partnerships and initiatives, and generate opportunities for business development.

I come from the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation (GPTMC) where I quickly built on the company’s outreach to the ever-growing Hispanic market through his use of traditional media relations and social media. I've placed stories in the Associated Press, USA Today, Hispanic Executive Magazine, Latina Magazine and various local news outlets. Fancy huh?

In 2010, I was named one of the “Delaware Valley’s Most Influential Latinos,” an event produced by the Philadelphia Multicultural Affairs Congress and Impacto Latin Newspaper, and in 2011, I took home the Hispanic Professional of the Year Award, one of three Excelencia Hispanic Business Awards distributed annually by the Greater Philadelphia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. I currently serve as one of three directors for the Philadelphia Public Relations Association (PPRA) and as the vice president of professional development for the Latino Leadership Alumni Association and am a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and Gamma Phi Sigma “Hermanos Unidos” Fraternity, Inc.

My career started at Taller Puertorriqueno where I found my love to not only the Latino community, but writing about it and supporting it in anyway possible. Between managing four Twitter accounts (GPTMC, PPRA, Gamma Phi Sigma and personal), Cortes writes about Latino culture for Enterate Hispanic Magazine, examiner.com and maintain this personal blog.
