NY Daily News prints wrong Puerto Rican flag

How do you piss off thousands and even millions of Puerto Ricans? Easy...you print the wrong flag on an ad for the National Puerto Rican Day Parade in NYC. I found the above photo on Facebook but it's clear that the New York Daily News has printed the wrong flag in one of their ads. Media companies are supposed to be a factual service for consumers yet when something like this slips the cracks, be prepared for an outrage. I work in marketing and communications so I know there are a good number of people looking at stuff before the final approval. Of course this wouldn't happen if a Latino was working at the NY Daily News (in the advertising/sales department). Now everyone's favorite NY Giant Victor Cruz is plastered on an ad waving the Cuban flag. Maybe the NY Daily News thought, "We'll use this version." Maybe not.

Do you think Victor Cruz should still "salsa" his way on the parade? Expecting an apology?

Update: The guys at LatinoRebels have posted the apology via the NY Daily News.
  •  "As the presenting media sponsor, the Daily News apologizes to the Puerto Rican, Cuban and other Latino communities as well as parade sponsors who were offended by our honest mistake. It will be rectified in tomorrow's paper."

Absolutely not. He should ride on la megas float. In fact the ny daily news float should be banned. Punto.

The ad was indeed a legit error.
There are a ton of latin people working at the DAily News. The team who designed and created the ad are all Hispanic. The editorial person is Hispanic. Sometimes simple mistakes/errors can get blown out of proportion as it has in this case.
You should thoroughly research the facts about the employee make up at the Daily News before posting a blog claiming racism.
I understand the frustration and disrespect that might appear but it's only disrespect if it was intential.

I think Victor Cruz is intelligent enough to make up his own mind. too often we jump to conclusions and tell people what they should or shouldn't do.

Please, can you tell the difference between all the african flags?

Come on, i am a venezuelan living in Puerto Rico and i can tell this was a simply mistake. Just an error. Yes, it's dumb and should be pointed, but there's no offense

hahaha fidel is pleased.

That is my point Administrador - people are so quick to yell things are racist and when a racist situation does arise, it's hard to pay attention to it because it is becoming a normal complaint.
Mistakes happen and a Hispanic person inside the Daily News was the one overseeing the project. But that's hard for narrow minded people to believe.
Of course the error should be pointed out, but to hear the company is racist is not fair to an organization who has been supporting ALL Latin groups for years

Thanks for the comments. Please note I did not "claim" racism anywhere in the post nor did I even use the word racist.

You are correct Eric that you did not use the word racist but you clearly said that the Daily News does not have a Latin person working there and that can be implied racism.

If you are a smart editor Hispanic or not you should have asked someone of that ethnic group to look at it. I am sure it is not the only Puerto Rican article the Daily News has ever written. Any race with pride would be offended.

It's not the "wrong Puerto Rican flag". There's only one - and that's not it.
