As all of you may already know, as of July 1st, "a law enacted by Puerto Rico in December, mainly to combat identity theft, invalidates all previously issued Puerto Rican birth certificates. That means more than a third of the 4.1 million people of Puerto Rican descent living in the 50 states must arrange to get new certificates." The Puerto Rican government is putting this in effect due to raids and stolen birth certificates last March. Who's fault is that now?
Puerto Ricans are U.S. citizens but apparently don't have the same rights as everyone else. But what exactly does this new law mean? What if they don't get it in time? Can Puerto Ricans still go to Puerto Rico without being questioned? A lot of questions remain unanswered. I hope most of you are contacting the PR government and getting it settled before your vacation.
