It's known that I'm in a predominately Latino fraternity that was founded at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. I pledged  Spring 2004 and have even written about it during my graduate studies at Saint Joseph's University. Since then I've pushed to be a better Latino male in the world we live in since in fact it's a crazy world.

Then this happened to Penn State's chapter of Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity, Inc. Yep, the organization's President was approached by a group of white male student's who proceeded to pour water on him and tell him to, and I quote, "go back to your country." It's one thing to pour water but to follow up with "go back to your country" is terrible.



My thoughts? First of all, the student is American. So these "white" students need to educate themselves. Second. I know this is cliche but I thought this was 2014? Of course incidents surrounding other racial activities have erupted event more so this year and I think people are now officially over it. Could this be the beginning of another civil rights movement?

According to Penn State's non-discrimination policy:

POLICY STATEMENT:The University is committed to equal access to programs, facilities, admission and employment for all persons.  It is the policy of the University to maintain an environment free of harassment and free of discrimination against any person because of age, race, color, ancestry, national origin, religion, creed, service in the uniformed services (as defined in state and federal law), veteran status, sex, sexual orientation, marital or family status, pregnancy, pregnancy-related conditions, physical or mental disability, gender, perceived gender, gender identity, genetic information or political ideas.  Discriminatory conduct and harassment, as well as sexual misconduct and relationship violence, violates the dignity of individuals, impedes the realization of the University’s educational mission, and will not be tolerated.

As incoming students, we usually want to attend a university that is clean and safe. People give universities like Temple and Widener a hard time because of the area but in reality it's the student population they should be afraid of.

According to LatinoRebels.com, the State College police issued a statement that they are investigating the incident.
